If We’ve Met Once Before
FYI: If we’ve once before, and then, much later, we meet again, then I will pretend that I only dimly recall our first meeting. However, there’s an excellent chance that I vividly remember our first meeting: where it was, what we talked about, and how long we talked.
But I never reveal how much I remember of our first meeting, for two reasons: It would seem creepy (“Why does this guy remember that much about a random conversation from 6 months ago?”), and I generally I assume that you have forgotten our first meeting, and me. So instead I generally offer up a lame: “Oh yeah, I think we met once before?” or I reintroduce myself.
Not sure why this popped into my head. But it’s a stupid thing that I frequently do.
EDIT: My brain starts to forget first meetings if we’ve met more than a couple times. There are exceptions. [Hal: I’m not positive, actually. But I’m pretty sure it was at/after a Sherpa show at USM, at Grassroots).] This is a dumb thing my brain does, in that it prioritizes information for people that I may never see again. Also, there are other people that I have met several times, and I forget completely. Brains are weird. So it’s not that I think my memory is that great, I just think it’s weird that I am unable to acknowledge “Oh yes, we have met once before.”
